Research Collaborations – National (UK)Universities/Academic Institutes.
Government Agencies and Industry.
EABRG has made a conscious decision to develop an applied approach in some of its research and to engage industry, environment protection agencies and the wider public. Our research associations include with large multinationals, UK water companies, the European chemical industry, the Chemical Manufacturers Association (CMA), and various SMEs. One of these research programmes is investigating ways of removing/reducing the activity of oestrogenic chemicals in STWs effluent. In other major projects, we have developed in vivo testing systems for EACs using fish and the data from this research have been used in the development of International OECD and US EPA test guidelines for hazard identification. Some of the assays developed in the laboratory for vitellogenin (the main precursor of yolk in fish and an oestrogen specific biomarker inducible in males) have been commercialised by the company, Biosense, in Norway and are used in research and industry laboratories worldwide. Given the major international drive to reduce animal testing, EABRG also has collaborative ventures)to develop further in vitro approaches to screen and test for endocinre active and other chemicals. EABRG has contibuted to many government reports, industry and general public awareness documents on endocrine disruption and ecotoxicogenomics.

These are collaborations have provided funding for our research and/or from which joint research papers have resulted. EABRG presently has 6 Research Council-CASE studentships. EABRG is involved with the EUREKA programme that promotes an exchange of scientific research between academic institutes and industry.
Research Collaborations - International
EABRG has been actively involved with the ERASMUS and SOCRATES programmes for the exchange of research students to undertake projects in research laboratories throughout Europe. Through this programme 11 students from The Netherlands, Italy and Portugal have spent studied with the research team.
