If
you wish to book the bells at Exeter Cathedral for your band,
they are most easily available on a Sunday, for an hour or so
up to the 3.00pm service (need to meet at least
90 mins before the service time for a quarter peal to allow for
raising and lowering). Bookings normally have to be made a couple
of months in advance.
For general ringing there is a slot between the services (approx
3.45pm to 5pm) when the bells can be rung. It may be possible to ring after the 5.00pm service
under special circumstances.
Peals
are allocated by a draw held at the beginning of September. Please apply in
writing to the secretary () with details of likely method and band. Five peals
a year are permitted, with one allocated to the local band.
General
ringing is on the third Saturday at 6.00pm (check first if you
are coming any distance as one or two bookings are occasionally
cancelled or moved).
There
are other practices and service ringing which experienced 12-bell
method ringers are welcome to attend. Please contact the Ringing
Master () for further details.
If
you would like to hear what the bells sound like, here
are a few rounds on the twelve.
Further
details of Exeter Cathedral are available from the Exeter
Cathedral Web Site. This includes pictures of the bells and
their inscriptions, and a picture of the ringers.
Information is also available from
"The Rings of Twelve" website including details of the
bells and their history and an additional sound clip.
