SAFE BANGLADESH

Some History:

 

1996: Ajit Roy works with Matt Carter, the first H&H volunteer, to undertake surveys of houses in Sundarban and conduct the first Action Research work shops (See Matt’s report on H&H website).  He continues to be involved with subsequent H&H and related activities.

 

2003: Ajit builds first cement-stabilised mud house, with assistance from BUET students .

 

2004: Ajit experiments with cement-stabilised mud block construction (see H&H News, 2005).

 

2007: Trial planting of 1.5km of road bank with range of indigenous trees and shrubs.  Click on the button for initial thinking and conclusions on trees and biodiversity, by Kabir and Ajit.

 

2009: Creation of SAFE Bangladesh with constitution and committee of 21 supporters.

 

25/6 April 2009: SAFE’s first rural workshop.

 

Summer of 2009: planting of trees around the new football pitch and at a local High School took place.  H&H will be investigating how this project could contribute to carbon off-setting.  Watch this space....


Sept 2010: H&H and SAFE joined forces to run their first international rural workshop with 18 foreign participants joining contributors from across Bangladesh.
