Annual Summer Garden Party
The date has been confirmed as Tuesday 2nd July, and will take place again at the Exeter Cricket Club. (Thanks again to Bruce.) There will be no charge for this event. Details and an application form are in the current Newsletter (No.27).
RSC Stratford on Avon
Here is the latest information from Bruce (Coleman):
The coach will be leaving from the Exeter County Cricket Ground (as so many UERSA trips do), probably at 8.15 am. There will be a stop of up to 30 minutes at a service station en route and we will aim to arrive in Stratford around 11.45-12 noon. There are various views on the idea of booking lunch at the Theatre Restaurant beforehand and I need to reconnoitre the set-up there before I can advise on that. Some may be happy to have a coffee and sandwich at a coffee-bar orperhaps take a packed lunch. As the Hamlet matinee starts at 1pm there are obvious constraints on time. As the RSC season does not start until March there are no notices of the production yet, but I will look out for them and try to circulate salient comments to members of the party. The only other point to mention is that there seems to have been a sharp increase in costs for hiring coaches since last year. I had hoped that the cost per head for the coach & driver would be around £22, but it now looks likely to be around £27.

Downes, the family home of General Sir Redvers Buller
This visit will be organized by

If there is enough interest I
can arrange a guided tour of the House plus the opportunity of
looking at the Gardens at Downes in Crediton at 11 a.m. on Thursday
11th July. The guided tour will only be for
UERSA so I need to know if there is likely to be any interest in this
event? There is a charge of £7.50 per person but this will be
reduced if there is a take up of 15 or more. If
you would like to come on the guided tour of Downes please let me
(Frankie) know by Friday 24th May at the latest

Topsham Guided Walk, with David Batty and John Carroll
This event will take place on Tuesday 16th July. The ancient and historic port of Topsham is situated 4 miles south of Exeter where the rivers Exe and Clyst meet. The tour will cover some of Topsham’s interesting past and hidden secrets. It will be taken at a relaxed pace and will last just under two hours. Meet at the Holman Way car park at 3:30pm and the walk will end on the Quay by the Lighter Inn/Route 2 Café. Topsham is easily accessible by train and bus routes 57 (get off at Station Road) and T (but please note the T bus does not run in the afternoon between 3pm and 7pm).There is no charge for the tour.
