FACILITIES for RETIRED STAFF

Please note: these facilities are granted at the discretion of The University. If you are accepted as a UERSA Member but are not recognized by The University as officially retired, these facilities will not be available to you.

All University of Exeter retired staff, whether or not they are members of UERSA, have access to the following facilities after retirement.

University card

All retired staff can obtain an Associate University Card; the category is shown as "Staff - Retired", and the card is obligatory for anyone wishing to use Library, Sports or I.T. facilities (see below).

Associate cards are processed by the main Reception in Northcote House. Their telephone number is (01392) 661000, and their email address is universityreception@exeter.ac.uk

Some information on use of the card can be found on this link; however, there is no specific reference to retired staff.

Members who have a Card which is approaching its expiry date, need to know that renewal does not happen automatically for retired staff.
Reception will post a replacement card to your home address, or you can collect it from them weekdays between 0830 and 1730. You may be asked to supply your title, date of birth and login username.

Use of the Library

The Library offers borrowing rights to retired staff that are identical to the borrowing entitlement of working staff, i.e. up to 50 items for up to a year - subject to the normal controls of recall, fine etc and assuming no swamping effect from some unforeseen climb in levels of take-up. (This should be compared to the external borrowership available to bona fide scholars who have no university connection, which allows the loan of up to 4 books for a month and costs 70 per annum. So there's a real benefit here to retired staff.)
Other facilities, such as photocopying and inter-library lending, are available at the usual unit costs.
In general, access to on-line data is not available to retired staff. This is due to the conditions imposed by the commercial licences. However, Emeritus Professors are a special category and have access to on-line data. It is important, therefore, for Emeritus Professors to ensure that their status is shown on their University card. The online Library catalogue is freely available to all users of the Library.

IT and E-mail facilities

If you are retiring, you can usually retain your existing University IT account by specifying this when applying through the "IT Access" links within the Associate Management System, which can be accessed from this page:

Sports facilities

Sports Facilities can only be accessed with a valid University Card. Details of all the sports facilities available can be found here:

Event Exeter mailing list

Event Exeter, which represents the portfolio of venues and hospitality at the University, offers members of the Retired Staff Association benefits of their promotions, for instance 2 for 1 lunches at Reed Hall, discounted rates for Bed and Breakfast on campus for family and friends and discounted rates for UERSA members should they wish to host a function or party at the University.
To be kept informed of the latest news, events and offers from Event Exeter, please email them at: eventexeter@exeter.ac.uk asking to be added to their mailing list and stating that you are a member of UERSA. If you decide receiving the newsletter is not for you, you can unsubscribe at any time.
Visit their website at www.eventexeter.com or contact them on 01392 215566.
