FACILITIES for RETIRED STAFF
All retired staff, whether or not they are members of UERSA, have access to the following facilities after retirement.
University card
All retired staff can obtain a University Card ("UniCard"); the category is shown as "Staff - Retired". The card is obligatory for anyone wishing to use Library, Sports or I.T. facilities (see below). Details and conditions of use can be found on this link.
The information for the Card Office has recently changed. All staff and associate cards are now being processed by the main Reception in Northcote House. Their telephone number is (01392) 661000, and their email address is universityreception@exeter.ac.uk
Reception will post a replacement card to your home address, or you can collect it from them weekdays between 0830 and 1730.
Please note that Members who already have a Card which is approaching its expiry date, need to know that renewal does not happen automatically for retired staff.
Use of the Library
The Library offers borrowing rights to retired staff that are identical to the borrowing entitlement of working staff, i.e. up to 50 items for up to a year - subject to the normal controls of recall, fine etc and assuming no swamping effect from some unforeseen climb in levels of take-up. (This should be compared to the external borrowership available to bona fide scholars who have no university connection, which allows the loan of up to 4 books for a month and costs £70 per annum. So there's a real benefit here to retired staff.)
Other facilities, such as photocopying and inter-library lending, are available at the usual unit costs.
In general, access to on-line data is not available to retired staff. This is due to the conditions imposed by the commercial licences. However, Emeritus Professors are a special category and have access to on-line data. It is important, therefore, for Emeritus Professors to ensure that their status is shown on their University card. The online Library catalogue is freely available to all users of the Library.
E-mail facilities
Information Services Committee has agreed to allow all retired staff to continue to use University IT facilities for academic and university-related activities where this is both practical and legal. All use will be subject to University Regulations and the JANET Acceptable Use Policy. Retired staff are required to obtain a University Card and will be afforded the same access as all Associates. Please notify the Helpdesk with your new card number, so that the relevant databases can be updated to reflect your Retired status.
Sports facilities
All retired staff can apply for membership for the sports facilities at the normal staff rate; full information is available on the University web site.
Any retired member of staff needs to fill out the application form and use their University card to access the sports facilities. When the card is 'swiped' at any reception point the membership details will be displayed on screen - so the card is essential.
